President Joe Biden announced that he ordered federal assistance to supplement state and local recovery efforts for the areas most severely affected by the spate of storms that ripped through Arkansas five months ago.
A dangerous mix of weather conditions in a collapsing storm system produced a microburst over parts of Little Rock on Wednesday afternoon that left around 15,000 without power and caused damage in a part of the city still rebuilding after an EF3 tornado at the end of March, meteorologists said.
A team of 54 volunteers spent Saturday driving around Little Rock with heat sensors attached to their cars to measure the temperature and humidity around the city.
Arkansas temperatures will continue to soar today, with a forecast high peaking near 99 degrees Fahrenheit in the metro area and the heat index projected to range from 110 to 120 statewide, according to the National Weather Service s North Little Rock office.
Arkansas temperatures this week will continue in the near triple-digits, with the heat index soaring around 110, due to a "heat dome" expanding across the Southern part of the country.
