And while many might expect rural areas to be home to the most trees, counties such as Cornwall (five per cent), Suffolk (eight per cent) and Norfolk (12 per cent) lagged behind industrial areas such as Manchester (19 per cent), Leeds (17 per cent) and Newcastle (16 per cent). OVO Energy teamed up with Bluesky, an aerial survey company, to study tree cover using complex algorithms which analyse aerial photography and terrain datasets.
