The highest daily figure since the start of the pandemic. People just dying and dying and dying. Although its ourjob and we deal with dead people every day, this level, i think, has taken its toll. Mr biden who will spend the night at the president ial guest house blair house, opposite the white house paid tribute to medical workers and spoke of the importance of healing as a nation. Ill be joined by great minds to d discuss the issue, last weeks attack and the threat of other ones and what can all americans do to try to restore robust democracy to their nation. Plus, mike pompeos parting gifts for the Biden Administration on china, cuba, yemen and more. Why is the secretary of state making a flurry of lastminute changes . But first heres my take. The most remarkable about the last few weeks in american politics has been the behavior not of donald trump but of the Republican Party. Trump acted just as he said he would, disputing the election result, refusing to commit to a peaceful transfer of power and encouraging extremism and even violence. Even after the attack on the United States congress, only ten House Republicans voted to impeach trump. And hes expected to issue about maybe as many as a hundred pardons and commutations as he heads out of the door. Were covering all of the angles. John harwood is live at the white house and m. J. Lee is in wilmington, delaware, covering joe biden. John, what are you expecting from trump in his final full day in office . Well, it is a bit of a mystery because donald trump has stayed out of the view. He suffered such a psychological blow from losing the election that hes been hiding out from cameras bathing in that fantasy that he won the election and it was stolen from him and one of the few sets of public remarks he made was that speech on january 6th that now left him with legal exposure for the deadly insurrection that follo
