To the First Congregational Church in berkeley. Its probably going to stay closed for days. Damon street which is in front of the church and perpendicular to where we are now just reopened. And the people here are still recovering from their loss but say they will use this fire as a way to prove theyre resilient. The pews are empty and the hymn books contain words that will go unsung here this weekend. But this place of worship remains standing and she says her congregation is staying strong. Im thinking this is going to be a lot of work. But im thinking we can do hard things. Our congregation. Reporter the sanctuary and chapel survived yesterdays fire thanks to firefighters who crawled on a catwalk thats between this ceiling and the roof. This water damage is now causing part of the ceiling to fall off in chunks.
