Cleveland company turns to automation to supply Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation with protective masks Updated Dec 24, 2020; Facebook Share CLEVELAND, Ohio – A Cleveland startup company with about 20 workers is using automation to produce millions of protective masks for the Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation to provide free to companies the agency insures. Buckeye Mask, headquartered near Cleveland Hopkins International Airport, churns out 40,000 masks a day on custom-made sewing machines, bought with loans from JobsOhio, the state’s economic development arm. The machines, supplied by Germany-based Duerkopp Adler, stitch each mask in six seconds and will enable Buckeye Mask to eventually produce 54,000 masks a day, company President Carla Macklin told ceveland.com and The Plain Dealer.
