Effective decisions. Understanding that type of research, i think, is really valuable. Its not only important in translating research into practice but also translating in a way that can draw on the experience of practitioners that have tried to use Research Findings and what are the barriers that they find. Trying to take advantage of quick turnaround and quick conveyance to mass audiences of information, but, at the same time, allowing for the interactivity that will allow people to get a greater grasp of whats being said. The partners to this cooperative agreement that is r2p really get together and they trywe try to figure out what are the most important questions that people who work in drug courts have that we have evidencebased research that can be used to assist them. We then start thinking about what kind of resources should we put together, what kind of people should be involved as experts, and then what the format should be. We watch people who learn to love themselves. Then they understand the freedom of gods forgiveness, and then we learn to forgive ourselves. Teen challenge has saved my life. I came through jail with no hope, and i was able to find hope in Teen Challenge. I was able to learn about god and how much he loved me. And when i left, i had learned to apply all the things i learned through the word of god to my life. When a person comes here, they are broken, theyve lost everything, they have a sense of shame. And when they come to Teen Challenge they are built up with this hope that things can change, that things really can be different. And when they begin to embrace that and allow god to come into their lives and allow other people to embrace them in their places of brokenness, then transformation begins to come, and its a joy to see the miracles of Teen Challenge. Recovery, or that are in treatment, to have a place to go. Was it important for you, ben . Yeah, it was absolutely, it was very, very important for me to have a place to go. Now, upon leaving treatment, the last time i was able to get into a closure recovery program, and i think for me, i know that many of the triggers for using were social, and so to have a group of friends who were also in recovery, where we could talk about what we were going through, and we could just have fun in recovery, was very vitally important for me to maintain my recovery. So, there would be an alternative way without drugs or alcohol . Yes. To really enjoy oneself . Absolutely. Very good. Vanna, in terms of your program, you know, we have to be realistic. What are some of the challenges in providing these types of support groups for people, for example, that may receive services from a Youth Service provider . Bridget, 21. 5 percent of 18 to 25yearolds have an issue with illicit drugs. Talk to me a little bit about that and what kind of drugs are they using. It is quite different than it was even 2 or 3 years ago. We see a huge increase in pharmaceutical drug use, not using it as prescribed. We also see an increase in alcohol use, and binge drinking is a serious problem, as well as s

We already talked about them. How should they intervene with a potentially problem situation . You know, tami used an important word, which was to have the conversation. I think that is crucial to begin to talk about what they see, what their concerns are and what is going on. It can be very challenging because, you know, as i think bridget and justin mentioned, adolescence is a time of experimentation. Its a time of risk taking. So, you know, one doesnt want to smother your kid or be what is referred to nowadays as a helicopter parent, which my daughter accused mebut at the same time, one needs to have that conversation and begin to address the issues and point out what your concerns are and maybe set some parameters for what you are looking at and follow up. And see if things are not getting better, if you are seeing the same things that concern you, its important to seek help, seek some kind of assessment. You know, what i am really troubled about is really the level ofamong the 18
