DUMAGUETE CITY, May 5 (PIA) Another historical marker commemorating the Philippines’ contribution to the first circumnavigation of the world which took place 500 years ago was unveiled yesterday in Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental.
Cabinet Secretary Karlo Nograles together with National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP) Commissioner Dr. Earl Jude Cleope, Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) Usec. Atty. Marvin Gatpayat, Philippine Information Agency (PIA) Director-General Usec. Ramon Cualoping III, Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG-7) Regional Director Leocadio Trovela, and Dumaguete City Mayor Felipe Remollo unveiled the Panilongon Historical Marker at Rizal Boulevard.

LA TRINIDAD, Benguet, April 30(PIA) The municipality of La Trinidad participated in the simultaneous flag raising ceremony on Tuesday( April 27) to celebrate the 500th anniversary of Lapulapu’s Victory in Mactan and other related events, collectively known as the 2021 Quincentennial Commemorations in the Philippines.
LGU officials and employees together with the uniformed personnel of the municipality participated in the flag raising ceremony strictly observing the minimum public health standards and other health and safety protocols.
Mayor Romeo Salda, in his message, honored the heroism of all the frontliners who are fighting and conquering the battle against the COVID-19 just like what Lapulapu who fought the Spaniards 500 years ago.

CEBU CITY, April 14 (PIA) The newly-restored historical marker of Antonio Pigafetta, the chronicler of the Magellan Expedition, which the National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP) turned over to the City Government of Cebu symbolizes Philippine’s close ties with Italy.
This was the message highlighted by several officials who attended the unveiling of the historical marker of Pigafetta at the Plaza Independencia here on April 13.
“This monument of Pigafetta is a living testament of Filipino-Italian Friendship as it was donated to the City Government of Cebu by the Philippine Italian-Association. The commission sees the value of the monument to the Filipino people as it is the only monument we have for an equally significant world figure,” NHCP Chairperson Rene Escalante said in his speech during the event.
