Daily Maverick published an article saying Madikizela wrote in his biography that he got a BCom in human resources management, when in fact he didn’t complete it.
Winde said he met with Madikizela and spoke to him about the matter. “I have since carefully considered the matter and have taken the decision to suspend Madikizela effective immediately for a period of 14 days, while an investigation determines all the facts. Cape Town - Opposition parties in the province are not satisfied with Premier Alan Windeâs two-week suspension of Bonginkosi Madikizela from the executive council after revelations that he lied on his CV about a degree he didnât have.
Until his suspension, Madikizela was Transport and Public Works MEC. For the time being, Human Settlements MEC Tertius Simmers will act in his place.
âI have taken the decision to suspend MEC Madikizela for 14 days, while an investigation determines all the facts. Once I have all the facts, I will make a final decision regarding Minister Madikizela and his role in my cabinet,â said Winde.
Western Cape Transport MEC Bonginkosi Madikizela has been suspended for 14 days while an investigation has been launched into the misrepresentation of his qualifications, Premier Alan Winde announced on Thursday.
“I met with Minister Madikizela yesterday afternoon, where I raised my concerns with him and asked for an explanation,” said Winde in a statement.
“During that meeting I made clear that acting with integrity is non-negotiable to me, and to the people of the Western Cape.”
Winde said he decided to suspend Madikizela for 14 days with immediate effect “while an investigation determines all the facts”. Human Settlements MEC Tertius Simmers has been appointed to act in Madikizela’s position.
Opposition parties have called on Alan Winde to fire Bonginkosi Madikizela for breaching the ethics code.
Madikizela is currently seeking legal advice following the qualification saga.
The DA indicated that its Federal Legal Commission would investigate the matter.
Opposition Parties in the Western Cape legislature have lashed out at Western Cape Premier Alan Winde s decision to place Transport and Public Works MEC Bonginkosi Madikizela on a 14-day suspension after he allegedly lied about his qualifications.

CAPE TOWN - While the African National Congress (ANC) in the Western Cape has welcomed the suspension of Transport MEC Bonginkosi Madikizela, the GOOD party said the move did not go far enough.
Madikizela is being forced to stay at home amid questions over his academic qualifications.
The Democratic Alliance provincial leader listed a BCom degree on his CV but has acknowledged he never actually completed it.
The suspension is for 14 days pending the outcome of an investigation, but the GOOD party said this was unacceptable as Madikizela had already publicly admitted to lying.
The party s secretary general Brett Herron said: “The National Qualifications Framework Act makes it a criminal offence for any person to fraudulently claim that they hold a qualification and could result to an imprisonment sentence of up to five years.”
