The name was earlier spelled Baycliffe and some residents who grew up there still use that spelling. The article referred to how 16 years earlier Martin, working as a small farmer and selling home-made vegetables, needed a new potato store. Having previously been involved in building work he was determined to make a good job of it. So much so, in fact, that his neighbours joked: “What are you building? A farm shop?”
