Over 6,000 migrant Workers from Kuwait repatriated Daily News (via HT Media Ltd.) The Sri Lanka Embassy in Kuwait continues to facilitate repatriation of Sri Lankan migrant workers and other Sri Lankans who were severely affected by COVID 19 pandemic under the guidance of Foreign Minister Dinesh Gunawardena and Foreign Secretary Admiral Professor Jayanath Colombage. The Embassy has repatriated over 6,000 Sri Lankans out of 9,000 persons registered with the Embassy. The repatriation is facilitated by the Embassy in coordination with the Presidential Secretariat, the Foreign Ministry, the National Operation Centre for Prevention of COVID-19 Outbreak, Labour Ministry, Foreign Employment Promotion and Market Diversification State Ministry, the Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment (SLBFE), SriLankan Airlines and relevant Kuwait authorities.

Whilst emphasizing that COVID-19 patients reported at present are already in critical condition at the time of detection compared to the previous COVID-19 waves, the Army Commander urged the people to take precautions. “When comparing the condition of COVID-19 infected cases detected at present to that of those from the previous waves of the outbreak, the medical condition at the point of detection is quite critical. Therefore, it is the responsibility of every citizen to avoid contracting the virus,” General Shavendra Silva stressed.
