The National Dental Commission Bill seeks to repeal the Dentists Act, 1948, and proposes to set up the National Dental Commission (NMC) to regulate dental education and the profession.
The Lok Sabha has passed the National Nursing and Midwifery Commission Bill, 2023 and the National Dental Commission Bill, 2023 aimed at improving the quality of nursing and dental education in India. The National Dental Commission Bill proposes to establish a commission to regulate dental education and the profession while the National Nursing and Midwifery Commission Bill seeks to establish a similar commission and repeal the Indian Nursing Council Act of 1947. The bills also aim to make dental education affordable and accessible and maintain national and state registers.

Opposition members said the passing of the bills despite the fact that a no-confidence motion has been moved in the House was “illegal” and “a fraud on the Constitution.”
