Women with smashed up faces and teeth kicked in - strangled, stomped on and brutalised. These are just some of the countless horrific cases Tauranga Women s Refuge manager Hazel Hape has witnessed this holiday season - and she s sick of the appalling violence being meted out in the family home. I don t know what the hell is wrong with this town, the level of violence against women is just f unacceptable. We have seen some horrific injuries being sustained towards women.

Police are warning holiday-makers to drive safely after a 6-year-old boy died in a head-on crash on State Highway 1 on Friday.
Myka Tuala from Wellington, died after a two-vehicle crash at Hikurangi about 4.20pm. Five people were injured but all were now stable condition. One woman is being treated in Auckland.
Myka s death was the first on Northland roads this year, after 28 people died in 2020.

Cloudy periods and a few showers should be all Northlanders have to deal with as they celebrate New Year s.
Tomorrow, MetService is predicting cloudy periods, light winds with a high of 25 degrees Celsius across Northland. On New Year s Day, similar conditions were expected, however, there was a chance of rain as westerly breezes pushed a front across the region. There s not too much to worry about, MetService meteorologist Lewis Ferris said.

A man who allegedly killed his two children and their mother took to Facebook just hours beforehand to accuse his wife of betraying him.
Kyle Milliken, wife Ashley and their two sons 13-year-old Kyle and Kycohn, 8, were all found dead in their Kentucky home on Sunday night.
Police now believe Milliken shot his family before killing himself. Autopsies were performed on all four family members on Monday, with the results still pending.
