NEWPORT – Neighbors have filed three separate lawsuits in Superior Court against Salve Regina University and the city’s Zoning Board of Review in an effort to prevent future construction of two dormitories near their properties.
Alan and Marilla Cervasio have filed two of the lawsuits. The first one objects to the proposed so-called Watts dormitory that would house 214 students and be near the historic Watts Sherman House on Shepard Avenue, from which the planned dorm takes its temporary name. The dormitory would front Lawrence Avenue between Shepard and Victoria avenues where five small buildings owned by the university now stand.
