No one will be allowed to usurp the rights of minorities in the country, says PM’s aide on interfaith harmony

Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Interfaith Harmony and the Middle East and Chairman Pakistan Ulema Council Hafiz Muhammad Tahir Mehmood Ashrafi on Monday said that the rights given to minorities by the Constitution of Pakistan and Islamic law cannot be disputed, adding that there is no content in the curriculum against minorities and their sanctities.
Speaking to visiting delegates of religious scholars of different schools of thought, Ashrafi said that the one-member minority commission did not consult the Muslim scholars and respective forums before making recommendations on uniform curriculum.

Religious freedom conditions have worsened in Pakistan as the government systematically enforces blasphemy and anti-Ahmadiyya laws , a report released by the United States Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF) said on Wednesday. Religious freedom conditions in Pakistan continued to worsen. The government systematically enforced blasphemy and anti-Ahmadiyya laws and failed to protect religious minorities from abuses by non-state actors. There was a sharp rise in targeted killings, blasphemy cases, forced conversions, and hate speech targeting religious minorities, the 2021 Annual Report stated.
