Statistics on the borrowing of digital reading materials in 2020 show that the numbers have more than doubled to 367,306 from only 167,374 in 2019.
Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Datuk Nancy Shukri said this was following the Please Sit At Home and Read Books” campaign organised by the National Library of Malaysia (PNM) during the implementation of the Movement Control Order (MCO) last year.
She said the campaign was to help give the public some ideas on how to occupy their time at home during the MCO and by browsing PNM s online services including the digital library service, u-Pustaka.

KUALA LUMPUR, March 7: The Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (Motac) today released a list of arts, culture and heritage premises allowed to operate in areas placed under the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) and Recovery MCO (RMCO).
Motac said the premises which involved museums, libraries, art galleries, centres for cultural heritage arts and performances would operate in accordance with set standard operating procedures (SOP).
The National Security Council (MKN) had previously stipulated that tourism activities and premises in CMCO areas were allowed to operate at 50 per cent of the capacity of the premises besides observing physical distancing and mandatory use of facemasks, while areas under the RMCO should at least comply with the rule of physical distancing.

KUALA LUMPUR: Services at the National Library of Malaysia (PNM), including the Community Library, will be reopened to visitors beginning Tuesday (March 9).
PNM deputy director-general Datin Jamaliah Mohd Nayan in a statement today said that the services to reopen are the Information and Membership Registration Counter; Malaysian and Overseas Reference Centres as well as bulk loan services at Menara PNM and Wisma Sejarah, as well as the Children’s Library Service at Anjung Bestari.
The operating time will be from 10am until 5pm, Tuesday until Saturday.
Meanwhile, the operating hours for the Bukit Damansara Community Library, Mahkota Cheras Community Library (BMC Mall), AEON Library at AU2 Setiawangsa (AEON AU2, Setiawangsa), Buku2U @ Radia Library (Radia, Bukit Jelutong) and Keramat UTC Community Library (Mini UTC, Keramat Mall) are from 10 am to 5 pm every Tuesday to S
