Former RCMP intelligence official Cameron Ortis who was sentenced to 14 years in jail after leaking national secrets has been granted bail pending appeal, CTV News has confirmed.
A front-line Alberta RCMP officer, accused of accessing police record systems and sharing information with the Republic of Rwanda, has been charged as part of a national security investigation.
Assistant crown attorney Judy Kliewer said Ortis’s conduct was a betrayal of the RCMP and Canada’s Five Eyes partners that jeopardized the safety of Canadians.
