Meat processing factory, a disgrace to country: Sobitha Thera 18 Dec 2020
By Ajith Siriwardana
It was a bad reputation and a disgrace to the country to have opened a massive meat processing factory in Katunayake with the blessings of the government, National Intellectuals Council Chairman Ven. Omalpe Sobitha Thera said yesterday.
Ven. Sobitha Thera told a news conference that the media had reported that the said factory could cater to around 10% of the world’s meat production.
“Though the government has not officially made an announcement on this meat processing factory, we came to know about it through the media. As citizens of this country, we have a right to know who owns this, what is the purpose of establishing this factory, the prelate said.
You are the biggest disgrace to the country and buddhism

As a Buddhist country the Monk has the right to disagree with the decision to allow meat processing factory in Sri Lanka. But the biggest hypocrisy about meat comes from your neighbour India, which has for decades projected itself as the saviour of animals, specially cows, from slaughter and won the respect of vegetarians all over the world. But what the world didn’t know was as it was talking about the virtues of vegetarianism, India continuously produced tons of beef all along and today stands as the second biggest beef producing country in the world. No other country can be so deceptive like India.
