Many Waking Up Without Power In Capital Region
As of 6:30am Tuesday National Grid reports 2,400 without power in Albany County and overall 8,000 still without power. That s an improvement from 11:30pm Monday when 10,000 customers without power in Albany County and a total of 25,400 affected. We’re increasing our field force, extending evening and overnight work shifts and closely monitoring the weather forecast that calls for wind gusts up to 60 mph across portions of central and eastern New York. Our crews are at the ready if the storm impacts service. We recommend keeping flashlights and extra batteries at home and keeping mobile devices fully charged so you can stay connected in the event of an outage.
The nor easter that blew into the region Monday did not pack the wallop some had feared, but it was powerful enough to drop up to 13 inches of snow on Rhode Island, deliver gusts of up to 60 mph and knock out electricity to about 18,000 National Grid customers.
As of Tuesday afternoon, power had been restored to all but about 75 customers.
Forecast to dump up to 18 inches of snow on the Ocean State, the massive storm left a larger wake in places like Northern New Jersey, which got 30 inches; Manhattan s Central Park, which received 17 inches; and Lowell, Massachusetts, hit with 24 inches.
With warmer air off the ocean turning precipitation to rain in the south and east corners of Southern New England, snowfall totals varied in Rhode Island.

JOHNSTOWN The office of Fulton County Emergency Management Director Steven Santa Maria on Wednesday sent out a public warning about severe inclement weather forecast to hit the area Christmas Eve into Christmas Day.
He said Wednesday he’s not trying to scare anyone, but wants to get a warning out during a period with COVID-19 also raging.
“The timing of this event couldn’t be any worse,” he said.
Santa Maria issued a news release indicating the Fulton County Emergency Management Office is encouraging residents to prepare for a Multi-Hazard Weather event that is set to impact the area Thursday night and into Friday. Heavy rainfall, strong winds, and a freeze are all possible scenarios.
