Saqib set to return from Maldives

KARACHI: Pakistan’s premier football goalkeeper Saqib Hanif is lucky to have been playing in the Maldives League for the last six years a time when the country’s other footballers suffered a lot for lack of activities because of the conflict among officials.
“Yes, I am the lucky one as I have played in the Maldives’ Dhivehi Premier League for the last six years. It gives you confidence and keeps you fit,” Saqib told ‘The News’ from Maldives on Wednesday.
Saqib’s team Green Streets finished third in the Maldives League 2020-2021 which spanned over a period of six months.
SSGC, WAPDA blast their way into National Challenge final

KARACHI: Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) and WAPDA blasted their way into the final when they beat Karachi Port Trust (KPT) and Army, respectively, in the semi-finals of the National Football Challenge Cup at Punjab Stadium, Lahore, on Friday.
SSGC beat KPT 2-0 while WAPDA edged past defending champions Army 1-0.
The SSGC-KPT outing remained tense with both sides making all out efforts to take lead. However, the defence line of both Karachi-based outfits showed resolve and thwarted some solid attacks.
At half time, the match was evenly poised without any goal. In the second half, SSGC, who are coached by Tariq Lutfi, exhibited more discipline and increased pressure on KPT. Finally Mohammad Lal put SSGC ahead in the 63rd minute. Saddam Hussain doubled their lead through a 78th-minute strike.

KARACHI: The last edition’s runners-up Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) inflicted a crushing 4-0 defeat on Navy to blast their way into the quarter-finals of the National Football Challenge Cup 2020 at Lahore on Sunday.
Meanwhile, Pakistan Air Force (PAF) defeated SA Farms 2-1 to also advance to the last-eight stage.
In the first pre-quarter-final of the day, at Punjab Stadium, SSGC kept tight control on the game throughout. Under the coach Tariq Lutfi, they went ahead in the 28th minute when they were awarded a penalty after Navy s Farhanullah made a foul inside the area. Habib-ur-Rehman made no mistake, hitting from the spot to put SSGC in front.

KARACHI: Higher Education Commission (HEC) and Karachi Port Trust (KPT) qualified for the quarter-finals when they knocked out their respective rivals, National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) and Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority (PCAA), in the round of 16 outings of the National Football Challenge Cup at Lahore on Saturday.
Higher Education Commission (HEC) defeated NBP 1-0, while KPT overcame PCAA 5-3 in penalty shootout.
HEC held NBP throughout the normal time and forced the match into extra time. In the third minute of the extra time Usama Suleiman headed the winner for HEC.
In the second match, KPT were solid at the back throughout and neutralised a potent attack of PCAA which included solid players Mohammad Waheed and Mohammad Naeem. Despite squandering a penalty, KPT went ahead in the 68th minute thanks to Junaid s header but PCAA staged a fightback, making it 1-1 through an own goal in the 73rd minute.
