In september of 2001 when the 9 11 attacks happened, and whatever shock the body politic had experienced by the contested and indeterminate 2000 president ial election, well, the 9 11 attacks further scrambled and upended political expectations nationwide. And so while the basic Political Science principle is that the president s party tends to lose seats in a midterm election, whatever party holds the white house, they tend to suffer in a nonpresident ial year election following them getting into the white house. Thats the basic principle. But for a lot of different reasons, that expectation didnt really take hold in 2002. Really nobody knew what was going to happen in that midterm. And in the great state of New Hampshire, that National Uncertainty in 2002, that upending of all normal expectations in 2002 was all funneled in that state, that year, into a very intense competition for a u. S. Senate seat that year in New Hampshire. The incumbent republican senator from New Hampshire los
Deadline today for campaigns to submit exactly this. And this doesnt mean theyre necessarily calling for a recanvassing. Senator Bernie Sanders campaign on thursday said it submitted a list of about 14 discrepancies that it found when going through the numbers that the Iowa Democratic party had put out. Now, the deadline today is simply to submit documentation of those inaccuracies or discrepancies at the campaign finds. Theres a separate deadline on monday noon central time for them to actually call for a recanvassing. I know the national Democratic Party chairman of the Dnc Tom Perez said he would like a full recanvassing. But, fred, up until this point weve not seen anything thats something the campaigns themselves are interested in. According to the Iowa Democratic party chairman, it would have to come from a campaign specifically that request for them to go ahead and do a recanvassing. In fact the Sanders Campaign told my colleague ryan nobles while theyre interested in getting so
A contested election result where the ultimate winner of that president ial election was effectively decided at the United States Supreme Court in a 54 vote. That alone would put a little noise in the signal in terms of what you might expect from the next National Election following that totally unprecedented debacle of a president ial election in 2000. But then it was further compounded in september of 2001 when the 9 11 attacks happened and whatever shock the body politic had experienced by the contested and indeterminate 2000 president ial election. Well, the 9 11 attacks further scrambled and upended political expectations nationwide. And, so, while the basic Political Science principal is that the president s party tends to lose seats in a midterm election, whatever party holds the white house, they tend to suffer in a nonpresident ial year election following them getting into the white house. Thats the basic principal but for a lot of different reasons. That didnt take hold until
Sedated during his speech. Well talk about that and more with eric squallwell of the intelligence committee. And our analysts are standing by. First, lets get straight to the white house. Boris sanchez is joining us. The president took a rather extraordinary victory lap today. Reporter thats right, wolf. A vicious victory lap. The president gloating and unrestrained using expletives, going after opponents and saluting his supporters with really dramatic flare. President trump saying that nancy pelosi is a horrible person, suggesting that mitt romney is the sort of unseen enemy. Then there was an awkward roll call. The president thanking his legal team and naming congressman who supported him through this ordeal and pausing to let audience members give them standing ovations. Trump was in rare form. Even by his own standards. Take a look at some of the highlights. This is really not a News Conference or a speech. Its not anything. Were sort of celebrating. I have done things wrong in my
