PDP Summons Emergency Meeting as Another Gov Defects to APC

Chuks Okocha in Abuja and David-Chyddy Eleke in Awka The National Working Committee (NWC) of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has summoned an emergency meeting today to discuss the planned defection of the Zamfara State Governor, Hon. Bello Matawalle, to the All Progressives Congress (APC) tomorrow. In an announcement yesterday by the Commissioner for Information, Mr. Ibrahim Dosara, the state government invited the governor’s supporters to witness the defection. The statement further said the Kano State Governor, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, and other APC stalwarts would receive the Zamfara State governor into APC. The Director-General of Media in the state, Mr. Idris Yusuf, had earlier yesterday told THISDAY that the governor would address journalists on the issue tomorrow.

President Muhammadu Buhari has said the death of Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt. Gen. Ibrahim Attahiru and 10 other military officers in last Friday’s air crash has increased the country’s problems, especially at a time the country is battling security challenges. He said this yesterday when he received a delegation of Nigerian Governors’ Forum (NGF) at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, who were on a condolence visit following the air crash that killed Attahiru and 10 others. The delegation was led by the NGF Chairman and Ekiti State Governor, Kayode Fayemi; with his colleagues, All Progressives Congress (APC) National Caretaker Committee Chairman and Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, and Governor Sani Bello of Niger State.

ADVERTISEMENT President Muhammadu Buhari has received the Chairman, Nigeria Governors’ Forum, Kayode Fayemi, who was in the Presidential Villa, to console him on the death of the Chief of Army Staff, Ibrahim Attahiru and 10 military officers. Mr Fayemi, who is also the governor of Ekiti State, was accompanied by the National Caretaker Committee Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Mai Mala Buni, and Gov. Abubakar Bello of Niger State. Speaking at the event, the president expressed sadness over the loss of officers at a time the country was battling with security challenges, saying that last Friday’s fatal air crash had increased the country’s problems.
