The Registrar of the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN), Faruk Abubakar on Tuesday, said 42,000 nurses have left the country.

The Nigerian presidency has said it is working to address the conflict areas and all the areas that will motivate nurses and midwives in the country. The National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives (NANNM) had on Monday staged a protest in Abuja against what they described as stringent verification certification guidelines released by the Nigeria and Midwifery Council of Nigeria. The nurses said the new rules were an attempt to hinder their freedom to pursue career opportunities.
