Theatre tour bringing storytelling magic to Eastern Cape schools

In the shade of a wild fig tree, children gathered to watch Jackal and Wolf, a colourful fable told through puppets, masks and amapiano dance breaks. For the next five weeks, East London theatre company Wêla Kapela Productions will be on the road, travelling to nearly 50 schools across the Eastern Cape after securing R342,000 through the National Arts Council's (NAC) Presidential Employment Stimulus Programme (PESP 4).

South African creatives have three days left to apply for the Cultural Producers Programme, a four-month incubator to nurture emerging artistic leaders in the industry. Now in its second iteration, the programme is a British Council initiative delivered by Business and Arts SA (Basa) in partnership with Common Purpose SA a collaborative leadership and resilience development organisation and the Pan African Creative Exchange (Pace), an organisation committed to the global reach of Africa’s contemporary arts industry.
