Government to accelerate commercial farming

Graphic Online BY: Ama Amankwah Baafi 30.5k Shares 705 Government has announced the creation of a Ghana Land Information Bank (GhLIB), to provide a reliable and easily accessible information platform to improve access to land for commercial farming. Leveraging digital technology, it will work more closely with stakeholders to confront the structural challenge with commercial agriculture this year. The caretaker Minister of Finance, who is also the Minister of Parliamentary Affairs and Leader of Government Business, Mr Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, announced the creation of the bank when he laid the 2021 Budget Statement and Economic Policy before Parliament on March 12. He said to complement the above initiative, government will also increase the procurement of local produce for schools, hospitals and prisons in order to help expand the market for our farmers.

Lowe says agricultural transformation strategy in Malawi facing challenges

February 12, 2021 Watipaso Mzungu – Nyasa Times 2 Comments The Minister of Agriculture, Irrigation and Water Development, Lobin Lowe, has admitted that the viability of the smallholder-led agricultural transformation strategy in Malawi is facing several challenges. Minister of Agriculture, Lobin Lowe :  There are several challenges Lowe cited low productivity, dependence on rain-fed production systems with only one growing season, and limited use of irrigation as some of the impediments. The minister made the sentiments when he opened the policy research seminar on the future of smallholder farming in Malawi. The seminar was jointly organized by Malawi Agriculture Policy Advancement and Transformation Agenda (MwAPATA) and the National Smallholder Farmers’ Association of Malawi (NASFAM).
