More than 36,000 people use or need disability service Data included in National Ability Supports System annual report A total of 36,649 people use – or still need – a disability service in Ireland, according to new data. Latest figures recorded by the Health Research Board (HRB) on the National Ability Supports System (NASS) also showed that 21,694 of the those registered on NASS in 2020 were male, while more than one-in-three (12,571) were under 18 years of age. The NASS Annual Report 2020, published today (2 June 2021), also revealed that intellectual disability was the most reported primary disability (22,746, 62%) followed by a neurological disability (4,201, 12%) and autism (3,804, 10%). Almost four-fifths (3,013) of those with autism were male, while half of those registered on NASS who did not live in a residential setting (16,292) reported having a primary carer.
