The charges
In addition to manslaughter, the Sommers are charged with two counts of assault in the second degree, and arson in the fourth degree, felonies. They were also charged with two misdemeanors each, two counts of third-degree assault and two counts of second-degree reckless endangerment.
Arraigned before Spring Valley Justice David Fried, their bail was set and they were moved to the county jail.
Village building inspectors Wayne Ballard and Raymond Canario are accused of filing false reports to the state regarding fire inspections. Their charges included a felony, offering a false instrument for filing, and a misdemeanor, second-degree falsifying business records.
