Several police departments escorted to Boston Children s Hospital April 14 the son of a Randolph police officer who was set to undergo open-heart surgery.
Departments from seven neighboring communities came together to accompany Nathaniel Rodman, of Whitman, who is affectionately known as “Nate the Great,” along with members of the boy’s family.
Rodman was born with multiple heart and kidney defects that have required several surgeries, including his first open-heart surgery when he was only 5 weeks old. The departments came together for Rodman and his family, which includes Matthew Rodman, who has served as a Randolph Police officer for more than seven years.
WHITMAN Nathaniel Rodman, affectionately known as Nate the Great, has faced great adversity in his first year of life.
The 1-year-old Whitman boy was born with multiple heart and kidney defects that have required several surgeries, including an open-heart surgery when he was only 5 weeks old.
Nathaniel s parents were told to expect that he would likely need five other open-heart surgeries throughout his life.
One of those Nathaniel s second in less than two years of life took place on Wednesday at Boston Children s Hospital.
And Nathaniel received a special escort to that surgery thanks to some of his father s friends. His dad, Matthew Rodman, has been a Randolph police officer for more than seven years.
