High winds and critical fire weather were forecast for the weekend across parts of northern Arizona while warm temperatures were expected in the Phoenix area.
A wind advisory was issued for Saturday and a red flag warning was issued for most of Sunday across the northern part of the state, according to the National Weather Service.
A weather storm moved in from the Pacific Ocean over Saturday and into midday Sunday and brought increasing wind speeds across northern Arizona, said Nathan Lynum, a meteorologist for the National Weather Service in Flagstaff.
With the typical springtime dry air in in northern Arizona and dry vegetation from a lack of recent rain, we are seeing concerns for fire weather, especially on Sunday afternoon, Lynum said.
