A leading epidemiologist is slamming some aspects of the Ontario government s decision to double down on COVID-19 restrictions Friday, saying that Premier Doug Ford has the science behind his soon-to-be-enacted measures absolutely upside-down. University of Toronto professor Dr. David Fisman expressed his frustration in an interview with Global News shortly after the premier s press conference, where he announced more COVID-19 restrictions aimed at slowing down the record-setting spread of new cases in the province.

Ontario considering provincewide stay-at-home order, closing non-essential retail: sources Ryan Rocca and Travis Dhanraj © THE CANADIAN PRESS/Nathan Denette Ontario Premier Doug Ford answers questions from the media at the Seneca College mass vaccination site during the COVID-19 pandemic in Toronto on Tuesday, April 6, 2021. Global News has learned the Ontario government is currently considering implementing a stay-at-home order and closing non-essential retail businesses provincewide in a bid to slow the spread of COVID-19. Sources told Global News that under the plan still being considered late Tuesday, non-essential retail stores would be limited to curbside pickup. Big-box stores, meanwhile, would be restricted to essential aisles only, marking a shift in policy from past lockdowns when the stores were allowed to sell non-essential items, much to the frustration of many small businesses.
