Peter carmichael is a director of the Civil War Institute and the robert c professor of civil war professors at gettysburg college. He is the author of numerous scholarly articles and essays as well as several books including one published in 1998 and the lost generation Young Virginians in peace, war, and reunion published by unc press in 2005.
