2A Boys Playoffs: Kinston hangs on to beat Randleman

There wasn t much that was pretty about it, but Kinston s boys basketball team managed to hang on for a 51-48 road win at Randleman in the first round of the NCHSAA 2A playoffs on Tuesday.
The Vikings (11-3, 9-3 Eastern Carolina) led 36-18 at halftime, but only scored 11 points in the third quarter and just four points in the fourth. Yet that subpar offensive output was just enough to edge the Tigers, who had a couple of looks to tie at the end of the game but couldn t hit the target.

Randleman pushed its record to 6-1 overall on Wednesday by defeating Asheboro, 53-38, in non-conference competition. The Tigers were led by senior Nate Cassidy with 17 points, which all came in final three quarters. Kaleb Mitchell (senior) and Bailey Petty (sophomore) chipped in 12 and 11 points respectively.
