National links: Anyone remember what happened the last time housing prices boomed this much?

Skyrocketing housing prices may not be a bubble, but they’re probably not sustainable either. In pricey, dense cities, forget “missing middle” housing: think “missing large.” Long cast aside as too polluted for recreation, urban rivers are having a moment. Home prices are starting to alarm policymakers: Experts say the current rise in home prices is unsustainable and are drawing comparisons to the housing bubble that led to the 2008 housing market crash and global economic recession. However, loans are stronger, regulations are tighter, and there is less of an overflow of housing stock than in those days. A price wall, rental crisis, and market stall do loom. By redesigning and rezoning for higher density and lower income households, suburbs can become much more livable for the one to two person household.
