JOHANNESBURG (AP) South African President Cyril Ramaphosa was confronted in Parliament Thursday by opposition politicians who pressed him to step down from office pending a criminal investigation into allegations that he covered up a theft from his rural game farm.
The president is under scrutiny over private business dealings involving the stashing of cash at his Limpopo farmhouse and allegations of a cross-border cover-up.
If Parliament were the oversight institution envisaged in the Constitution, opposition MPs argued, the president would answer for the forex farm robbery, Police Minister Bheki Cele would account for the deteriorating crime situation – alongside State Capture Commission recommendations.
