Ivermectin, an inexpensive drug used primarily to treat a wide range of parasitic infestations in animals, has gained popularity in certain countries for the prevention (prophylaxis) and treatment of Covid-19.
The anti-parasitic has led to a great division in the scientific community , Professor Natalie Schellack, head of the Department of Pharmacology at the University of Pretoria (UP), recently said in a webinar hosted by UP.
While some experts point to inconclusive evidence that the use of ivermectin can prevent or treat Covid-19, a panel of medical experts from around the world believes it can alleviate some of the worst effects of the disease.
