Detroit Lakes City Council candidates talk snowy sidewalks, Pavilion and future of city at candidate forum

Incumbent Detroit Lakes City Council members and the candidates running to replace them discussed sidewalk snow removal, the future of the Pavilion and other issues affecting the city during a candidate forum, hosted by the League of Women Voters, at the Detroit Lakes Police Department on Wednesday, Sept. 28, 2022.

Candidates already signing up to run for Detroit Lakes City Council; filing ends Aug 16

Three prospective candidates and one sitting Detroit Lakes City Council member have filed to run for five council seats, three of which will be uncontested this November. Municipal and school district candidate filing opened on Aug. 2, and ends Aug. 16 at 4:30 p.m.

Detroit Lakes police approved for body camera purchase; Wenner won t seek reelection in Ward 1 this November

The Detroit Lakes Police Department received city council approval for a $46,562 purchase of body cameras and the first year of Cloud data storage during the council's regular meeting on July 12. Also, Dan Wenner, alderman first ward, announced at the end of the meeting that he will not seek reelection to the council this fall. Wenner has served on the Detroit Lakes City Council for the past 12 years, and was also a longtime member of the city's planning commission, which he served on beginning in 1987.

Detroit Lakes City Council approves bid for West Lake Drive Phase Two, construction to begin mid-July

The winning bid for the street and utility project was approved following a public hearing on Tuesday, June 7. Construction may begin as soon as mid-July between County Road 6 and the Pelican River.
