FSU officials address allegations of voter suppression

Amid allegations of voter suppression, the Associate Vice President for Student Affairs, the former Supervisor of Elections and Director of Student Engagement have come forward with statements addressing the issues that occurred with the voting system during last week’s SGA election.
Griffin Leckie, who ran for Vice President under the Progress party, listed a number of concerns with the voting distribution and ballot systems which he believed amounted to voter suppression.
Leckie alleged that the ballot was sent out a day early in a mass email announcing that it was Election Day and that the email wasn’t sent out on the actual day of the election. (The latter statement is false, as another email was sent out on the day of the election announcing it was Election Day.) Candidates for the Student Government positions of President, Vice President and Treasurer engaged in a debate on Monday, Feb. 22. The candidates shared their ambitions and agendas on how they believe they can make Florida State a better place for all students.
Those who participated were presidential candidate Jalen Blocker and his VP candidate Griffin Leckie for the Progress Party of Florida State, presidential candidate Nastassia Janvier and her VP Candidate Colbi Thykadavil for the Movement Party (previously known as Amplify) and presidential candidate John Alvarez, who is running independently.
