PESHAWAR: Nasir Khan Durrani will be remembered as one of the most revered and celebrated chiefs of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police as he introduced a number of reforms in the force at a time when it was facing the tough challenge of fighting terrorism.
He had joined the force as ASP in 1982 and retired as IGP in Grade-22.
He breathed his last on Monday after suffering from Covid-19. His death caused immense grief as he was regarded as a legend in uniform.
There were thousands of social media posts that paid glowing tributes to Nasir Khan Durrani after his demise.

The former IG KP was under treatment at Mayo Hospital for a month. He was on ventilator support for the last several days after his condition deteriorated.
Durrani had also served as the head of the Punjab Police Reforms Commission.

Prime Minister Imran Khan expressed his condolence over the death of Nasir Khan Durrani and lauded the services of the former police chief.
LAHORE: As many as 27 more critical patients, including retired inspector general of police (IGP) Nasir Khan Durrani, died of Covid-19 in Punjab during the last 24 hours.
Mr Durrani, who headed Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police, was under treatment at the Mayo Hospital for the last two weeks or so.
Mayo MS Iftikhar Ahmad said Mr Durrani, who was a heart patient, was put on ventilator a week back after he developed Covid complications during the treatment.
According to official figures, the Covid death toll reached 7,457 in Punjab, where 2,766 more people tested positive for the virus during the last 24 hours, taking the total number of infections to 270,338.Lahore has reported 1,413 new cases.

The National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) on Monday said that the country’s oxygen supply capacity is now under stress amid the third wave of coronavirus.
Federal Minister Asad Umer, in a tweet, said that critical care patients in the country are now above 4500, which is 30% higher than the peak in June last year. “Hospital fill up continuing to grow. Critical care patients now above 4500, which is 30% higher than the peak in June last year. Oxygen supply capacity in the country is now under stress,” he said.

Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Asad Umar on Monday said due to non-compliance of the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) set to control spread of COVID-19, the situation in the country was getting worse.
In his tweet, he said oxygen supply capacity in the country was now under stress and the SOPs compliance remained low. “We are making a huge mistake by not following SOPs,” he warned.
He said the number of COVID patients in the hospitals was growing quickly and the critical care patients were now above 4,500, which was 30 percent higher than peak in June last year.
