Wrestling s been a part of Frank Simpson s life, well, almost longer than he can remember.
The legendary Montgomery Bell Academy coach first wrestled in high school at Father Ryan, then collegiately at MTSU and since has logged more than four decades in the sport that he grew to love from a mere happenstance event.
“I actually saw my first wrestling match in 1968 when I went and watched Father Ryan wrestle Notre Dame,” Simpson said. “At that time my oldest sister (Sue Ann) was dating a wrestler at Ryan, and I thought it would be cool to see what wrestling is all about.
COMMENTARY | Ryan Ali, the head of the Office of Sports and Entertainment who had been under a city Inspector General s investigation, resigned last week, becoming the latest Mayor Lenny Curry-backed appointee to leave City Hall amid controversy. Ali, who made $115,000 a year, had been on administrative leave since September, when Curry s office notified him he was under investigation for alleged workplace misconduct.
That investigation is ongoing and confidential, and Ali, in his resignation letter to Curry s administration, said he remains unaware of any specific allegations but look(s) forward to the completion of the investigation and remain confident the Inspector General will conclude that I did not engage in any wrongdoing. Ali said he is leaving to take a position outside government.
