Tech giant Oracle appears to have begun layoffs at its Nashville offices as plans for a massive East Bank development featuring a planned Oracle riverfront tech campus continue to move forward.
But supporters won out after a nearly five-hour public discussion with Metro s Industrial Development Board about the proposal s economic incentive agreement.
Only two of nine board members voted against the deal on Tuesday. The proposal is a game changer for Nashville in employment, education, economic opportunity and affordable housing, Mayor John Cooper told board members. Oracle is going to use $175 million of its own money to build parks and other public infrastructure. All of which will be transferred to Metro ownership.
If approved by Metro Council on May 4, Oracle will close on a large swath of East Nashville riverfront for offices around winding paths, waterways and a marina.
