GUWAHATI: Shortage of vaccine has forced the state health department to suspend inoculation at about 90% of the sites on Sunday. Only 224 of the 2,000-odd Covid vaccination centres (CVCs) were operational in the state on the day. While 216 of those sites were under government control, only eight CVCs in the private sector was functional.
Immunization officials, however, said the drastic fall in vaccination has been mainly because of Sunday when most of the nursing staff goes off duty. We may have been able to complete around 30,000 inoculation on Sunday. Unless new stock comes, Assam will have around 1.3 lakh doses in hand, state immunization officer Munindra Nath Ngatey told TOI. On Sunday, the session sites were operational mostly in urban areas and Guwahati city. There was hardly any session in rural areas, Ngatey added.
