Gujarat police is now equipped with a 1,000-live streaming body-worn cameras and 9,000 standalone body cameras. Police have bought a software system for the cameras. The feed from the 1,000 live streaming cameras will be monitored by the District level Command and Control Centre on a real-time basis. Senior officials said that training of 30,000 police personnel and officials has started and soon cops on the road and during operations will be seen wearing body-worn cameras.
The body cameras will be important in monitoring interaction between police and public during operations or when enforcing law.
Ahmedabad city has been alloted 2,500 cameras, 995 to Surat, 660 to Vadodara and 395 to Rajkot city. Other districts and Gujarat Railway Police have been provided cameras according to their need.
