The government still intends to press ahead with its plan to reopen Phuket to foreign tourists on July 1, despite battling another surge of Covid-19 infections.
The government s committee on national tourism policy, chaired by Tourism and Sports Minister Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn, on Friday confirmed the plan made before the new outbreak of Covid-19 struck Bangkok and other parts of the country early last month will still be implemented.
The reopening would later be expanded to cover Krabi, Phangnga, Surat Thani, Chiang Mai, Chon Buri, Buri Ram, Phetchaburi, Prachuap Khiri Khan and Bangkok, said deputy government spokeswoman Traisuree Taisaranakul.

successfully completed the first Villa Quarantine pilot project last week and
are now free to embark on a one-month tour of the country, the Tourism
Authority of Thailand announced at the weekend.
The Villa Quarantine project unfolded at the Sri Panwa Phuket, endorsed by the Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA). It now paves the way for the launch of a larger area quarantine initiative that is tentatively scheduled from April to May 2021.

PHUKET: Provincial labour officials were rounding up 106 migrant workers who recently returned from a trip to Samut Sakhon to extend their visas, so they could be tested for Covid-19 infection, governor Narong Wunsiew said on Wednesday.
He was speaking while chairing a meeting of the provincial disease control committee to discuss the discovery of a new case of Covid-19 on the island and end-of-year festivities.
