Tarin for plan to reform pay, pension system

Daily Times May 8, 2021 Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue, Shaukat Tarin Friday directed the Pay and Pension Commission to chalk out short, medium and long term plans for reformation of pay and pension system in the public sector over a period of time. During a meeting with Chairperson Pay and Pension Commission, Nargis Sethi, who called on him here, the finance minister appreciated the efforts being made by the commission for streamlining the prevailing system of emoluments based on principles of equity, fairness and transparency. Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Finance and Revenue, Dr. Waqar Masood Khan and Secretary Finance Division were also present during the meeting.

Top Story May 7, 2021 ISLAMABAD: Chairperson Pay and Pension Commission Nargis Sethi has said that they would prepare an implementation plan along with a detailed report in order to give way forward to the government. A total of 29 Pay and Pension Commission/Committees were formed since the country’s inception but with no tangible impact. “It is time for serious reforms, or we would not be able to cope with the contemporary requirements for governance and a few years down the lane, the bureaucratic apparatus would be gearing faster towards dysfunctionality,” stated the findings of a research report on civil service reforms launched by the Pakistan Institute of Development Economics (PIDE) here on Thursday. The report was prepared by PIDE team under the supervision of economist Dr Durre Nayab along with others in collaboration with the support of UNDP.

PHOTO: FILE ISLAMABAD: The Ministry of Food Security and Research is pressurising Pakistan Agriculture Research Council (PARC) to reinstate employees who were terminated on grounds of illegal appointment made by the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) during its tenure. The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has already issued decision to terminate 262 employees, however, instead of terminating them, the food ministry moved to interfere in the affairs of PARC in a bid to reinstate those employees who had been terminated in 2018.
