The Expanse : How Alex Kamal Died and Why Cas Anvar is Leaving the Show

The Expanse Season 5, Episode 10, titled Nemesis Games saw the latest character die on the show (spoilers ahead) as Alex Kamal (played by Cas Anvar) met a very sudden end that has left fans of the Amazon Prime Video show confused and frustrated. Alex s death on the show came after the actor who played him was fired after a series of sexual misconduct allegations against him emerged in summer 2020.

Midway through the finale, Alex died of a stroke in his attempts to save Naomi (Dominique Tipper) from the Chetzemoka. His initial plan is to dock with the ship in the Screaming Firehawk. However, Naomi leaves the Chetzemoka, which has been primed to explode, and so Alex and Bobbie (Frankie Adams) have to grab her from space.

Expanse series of sci-fi novels, sees the
Rocinante crew racing to save Naomi Nagata s life. James Holden rides headfirst into battle against the Free Navy forces of Marco Inaros while Alex Kamal and Bobbie Draper race to Naomi s location. Alex and Bobbie manage to get to Naomi in time to save her life, but it comes at a cost. The hard burn causes Alex to suffer a stroke that kills him in the pilot s seat.
Amazon s sci-fi series The Expanse knows a thing or two about endings and revivals.
The show was canceled at its original home Syfy in 2018 after three seasons but revived by Amazon after fans rallied for a streamer to save it. And in November, ahead of the fifth season premiere in December, Amazon announced it renewed The Expanse for a sixth and final season.
During an interview ahead of the season five finale on Wednesday, The Expanse showrunner Naren Shankar told Insider that if there s a chance to do more after season six, he ll take it. After all, each season has closely followed the novels the show is based on (by authors Daniel Abraham & Ty Franck) and a ninth installment hits book shelves this year.
