SHC bars Excise, Narcotics Dept from investigating drug cases July 17, 2021 KARACHI: The Sindh Excise, Taxation and Narcotics Control Department has been restricted from registering, investigating, and prosecuting cases of narcotics in the light of orders of the Sindh High Court. The Sindh High Court, after heairng a criminal appeal, declared on June 19, 2021 registration, investigation and prosecution by the Excise Police under the Anti-Narcotics Act as illegal, and ordered the department to hand over them to area police stations for further proceedings. Following the court orders, the Director General Excise, Taxation and Narcotics Control directed the directors of all divisional headquarters to hand over the record to the Sindh Police. He also barred them from registering any new case under the Act.

Karachi police chief asked to inquire into illegal arrests by Mithadar cops Karachi January 23, 2021 A court has asked the Karachi police chief to conduct an inquiry against the station house officer (SHO) of the Mithadar police station and other police personnel accused of illegally detaining citizens in order to collect money from them for their release. Three interned suspects - Zeeshan Malik, Shahid Ahmed and Muhammad Rizwan – had filed separate applications against the policemen, saying that they were illegally detained and humiliated and were forced to pay bribes to police. Malik, Ahmed and Rizwan were booked under the Section 23-1(a) of the Sindh Arms Act and Sections 6 and 9-B of the Control for Narcotics Substances Act by the Mithadar police in the mid of January.

Poast is the name given to that part of a poppy plant which has the shape of a basket, sack or pouch and it contains the seeds of such a plant. In some parts of this country this natural pouch of the poppy plant is also known as doda,” said Justice Mazhar Ali Akbar Naqvi in a 6-page verdict on the appeal.
