Despite being unexpectedly pushed three wide early, Devan Miller (Bristol Bay) persevered and won Friday’s (Oct. 13) Lady Drivers’ Championship at Hollywood Casino at The Meadows. The event was part of the seventh annual Pink Out staged by The Meadows and the Meadows Standardbred Owners Association to support the American Cancer Society.
Seven stalwart trotters went to post Friday in a Great Lakes Amateur Drivers Association Trot at Scioto Downs, and when the judges posted the official sign Alesha Binkley emerged victorious after she reined Wittyville to a gate to wire triumph in 1:57.4.
Despite starting from the six-hole Binkley sent the son of Manofmanymissions to the lead when the gate sprung and she led her competition by that standard in :29.1. Despite Roundtown Rocker ( Peter Stratton) being parked the talented lady driver of her charge by the half in :59.2.
After Wittyville put Stratton s trotter away Binkley braced for challenges from Backdoor Man (Floyd Rhodes) and Just Joe (Naquel Harvey). However Wittyville was up to the challenges and the veteran trotter proved too hard to overcome and he drew off to a two-length lead which he carried all the way to the wire.
