Now at 11 00 this endangered blue whale is beached on the coast tonight and initial investigation shows it may have been struck by a ship. The whale washed up on agate beach in bolinas just north of stinson beach. More now from veronica de la cruz. The blue whale carcass is nearly 80 feet long and is described as a subadult female. The Marin Mammal Center said it first got reports last night about a carcass floating near the shoreline and by this morning it was on the beach. Scientists from the Mammal Center took samples from the skin and blubber and plan to go back out to the beach tomorrow to do a complete necropsy with help from the California Academy of sciences. Thats when theyll be able to determine if a ship strike was the cause of death. Photographs provide another perspective on just how large this whale is. Distinctive markings indicate that this is the same whale spotted a dozen times off the coast since 1999. Tonight a federal official at noaa issued a warning a the recreat
