The village of Priceville in southwestern Ontario was home to a vibrant Black community in the 1850s, but it had all but disappeared by the 1880s. Historians and descendants are trying to revive that history, starting with restoring the Black cemetery that was plowed over close to a century ago.

Grey County council passed a motion at its committee of the whole meeting Thursday directing staff to take no further action toward the purchase of the approximately 40 acres of land located at the corner of Durham Road B and Grey Road 14.

At its meeting on June 24, county council voted to defer the recommendation to allow council members to reflect on the matter further.
The deferral came after the committee that oversees the cemetery sent a letter to county officials requesting that it still buy the property, but for a commemorative space.
