The fundraiser for the son of a born and bred Helston man has almost reach £10,000. Ben Wallis,14, whose dad Shaun was born and raised in Helston, was diagnosed with both a brain tumour and a rare disease called Langerhans cell histiocytosis which had caused a second tumour at the back of his head. Ben s family decided that they would start a fundraiser for the Bristol Children s Hospital Wallace and Gromit’s Grand Appeal, that funds pioneering, life-saving equipment and research, as well as The Starfish Appeal at the Royal Devon & Exeter hospital, who are raising money for a new children’s outpatient area.
School children in Helston came together to make Christmas cards for Coastline Housing residents in a bid to bring a little happiness this year. Colleagues at Coastline ran a Christmas card appeal that saw children from local schools and people in the local community being asked to make and share a card that could be given to a Coastline customer who might be experiencing loneliness this year. They received just over 280 cards including 167 cards from Nansloe Academy. These were packaged with a Christmas message of explanation from CEO Allister Young and addressed personally to customers at Miners Court in Redruth, Veor House and Trelawney Court in Camborne, Hens-Horn Court and Scotts House in Helston, Quentral House in Pool and Copper Close in Redruth.
