The editor-in-chief, Katharine Viner, and Annette Thomas, the chief executive, have repeatedly clashed over control of the finances and direction of the
Guardian during the pandemic, according to multiple insiders.
One said: “It boils down to who calls the shots.”
Relations between the women are said to have broken down to such an extent that senior staff in both commercial and editorial departments believe one of them may have to leave unless a peace deal can be brokered by the Scott Trust, the £1bn endowment which owns the
Morressier Raises $18M in Series A Funding
Morressier, a Berlin, Germany-based virtual conference and publishing platform for the scientific community, raised $18M in Series A funding.
The round was led by Owl Ventures with participation from existing investors Cherry Ventures and Redalpine. Existing investors in Morressier include industry experts Annette Thomas (The Guardian, Clarivate Analytics), Jan Reichelt (Mendeley, Kopernio), Martin Jagerhorn (AVEDAS), Jan Maier (AVEDAS), and Pote Lee (iGroup).
The company intends to use the funds to
scale its team across all departments, further grow its platform technologies. accelerate its growth and launch new community and analytics features that will increase collaboration and foster an ongoing conversation around conference content.

Taurel intends to step down from the board in due course, the FTSE 100 constituent said, no later than the 2022 annual general meeting. It s long been my intention that, with a new chief executive firmly in place and with strong foundations from which Pearson can grow, I would plan to step down from the board. The Nomination & Governance Committee will establish a process, led by the senior independent director, to identify and appoint my successor. he said.
